Established in 1905, the Town of Cornelius originated as a mill and farm community. With the closing of the mills, the damming of the Catawba River, the development of I-77 and the growth of the Town as a result of its close proximity to Charlotte, the Town has experienced significant growth in recent years. Cornelius is approximately 15 square miles with a population of approximately 24,984, according to the town's webiste.
Located 20 miles north of Charlotte, N.C., a small college town with engaged and active citizens who care deeply about their community. Home to Davidson College, with a certified arboretum and remarkable students who contribute to the life of the town. The population is approximately 11,000* with a median age of 37 and is facing an explosion of growth in young families and families with school-aged children. Main street has shops, wide sidewalks, a community library and flowers everywhere. The town green is used for pick-up football gamed, play dates, festivals, croquet matches and outdoor concerts. Davidson is built for pedestrians and bike riders, not for the car. They are passionate about diversity, and require that 12.5% of all new development is affordable to encourage all types of homes and all types of citizens. In the last few years, the town has acquired almost 500 acres of open space. The miles of greenways and walking trails connect neighborhoods providing citizens with alternate ways to get around town and access nature up close.
